Fly fishing is all about anticipation and exploration

Each cast and river bend offers a chance to connect more deeply with nature. Whether you’re fishing a mountain stream, ocean flat, or raging rapid, it’s the pursuit of wild places that draws us in. Every catch is a bonus, and each release is a moment to appreciate the natural world.

Our Story

Firetail Fly takes its name from the flash of a tigerfish’s tail and the stories shared around a campfire at the end of a long day on the water. Built on decades of guiding experience, Firetail Fly was founded to offer anglers a truly exceptional African fishing adventure while protecting the wild places that make it possible. We believe great fishing and responsible conservation go hand in hand. Our operations are designed to minimise our environmental footprint while supporting the long-term protection of Africa’s rivers, wildlife, and landscapes.

Our mission is simple: to create extraordinary fishing experiences without compromising the integrity of the environment that sustains them.

Malagarasi High

As the rainy season draws to a close, the river swells, breaching its banks and the surrounding grasslands, marking the onset of the high-water fishing season. This surge of water through the grassy plains serves as a natural filter, so that by the time it rejoins the main channel, its waters are crystal clear.
